Multibanco at Ezz

Seen from a reconciliation desk, a Multibanco reference is neither money nor a promise of money. It is an open line in a collection system, waiting for somebody to close it. This file follows that line from the moment the cashier issues it to the moment the money comes back to the player by a different road entirely. The comparison with other rails sits on the payments page.

What the cashier issues

Choosing this rail makes the cashier ask a Portuguese payment provider to create a collection, and what comes back is three fields: a five-digit entity identifying who is collecting, a nine-digit reference identifying this collection and no other, and a fixed amount that forms part of the instruction and cannot be edited at the counter. Until somebody settles it, the line is inert — no balance is reserved, no card is debited, and the gaming account is exactly where it was.

The privacy consequence is real rather than marketing: the operator never sees an IBAN, a card number or online banking credentials. It knows that reference number so-and-so was settled, for that amount, at that time.

What the bank records

Settlement happens at one of two counters — inside online banking or the bank's app, through the services payment menu, or at a Multibanco ATM, which prints a paper receipt. Either way the bank books it as a services payment to the holder of that entity, not as a transfer to a person. That is precisely why the description that ends up on a bank statement rarely carries the trading name a player expects to find there.

The states a reference rests in

Two records, and only one of them is enough

After settlement there are two separate artefacts. The bank statement keeps a services-payment line with date, amount and usually the entity. The receipt or screenshot keeps the full trio including the nine-digit reference, which is the only element that pinpoints this specific collection. Keep the second until the balance appears on screen, and keep the month's statement for as long as the account is open — it doubles as the proof of payment instrument required by the verification described in the withdrawal file.

The road back

Here is the asymmetry that catches first-time users: Multibanco only takes money in. A reference identifies a collection, not an account, so there is no destination to send money to. Winnings leave by bank transfer to a PT50 IBAN in the account holder's own name, on the usual one to three business day calendar covered in the SEPA file. Registering that IBAN on the same day as the first deposit removes the only genuinely avoidable delay in the whole process.

Availability, stated honestly

Ezz is not listed on the SRIJ register and works under international licensing. Domestic rails like this one depend on whichever payment providers the operator has contracted at a given moment, and that list changes without notice. What the cashier shows on the day outweighs any table published in a notebook, including this one.
